The UFC announced Conor McGregor and Urijah Faber will coach the next season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Next: 30 little known facts about Conor McGregor

During The Ultimate Fighter Finale for the 21st season between American Top Team and the Blackzilians, the UFC announced who the coaches were for next season.

Newly crowned UFC interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor will coach against Urijah Faber in a Europe vs USA format.

It also won’t reportedly delay a match between McGregor and featheweight champion Jose Aldo, since McGregor and Faber won’t fight at the season’s conclusion as is customary on the show.

Still it is interesting given the storylines in play, and McGregor’s popularity is being harnessed to breathe life into the reality television show competition. Faber of course is a Team Alpha Male member and friend of Chad Mendes, who McGregor defeated at UFC 189 on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

There was also the scrap between McGregor and Faber at the weigh-ins for the event. The UFC conspiracy theorists will wonder if that was authentic or a nice little fabrication to help build hype for the show.

Mendes and McGregor seemed to resolve and settle their issues after UFC 189, we’ll see if Faber and McGregor are still hostile towards one another.

But more McGregor on television is good news. For the UFC it makes perfect sense to tie in their biggest star to bring eyes to the program.

You have to wonder if that much McGregor could make people grow tired of him.

I don’t think so.

‘The Ultimate Fighter: Team McGregor vs. Team Faber’ will debut September 9th on FOX Sports 1.
