Gary Pinkel of Missouri had no problem letting everyone know how he feels in regards to Notre Dame being an independent
Even dating all the way back to the BCS era, before the College Football Playoff system, despite being an independent in football Notre Dame has always been given somewhat of a benefit of the doubt. Although they’re not tied to a major conference, they still get a fair shake at the national championship if they qualify record-wise.
Well, Missouri Tigers head coach Gary Pinkel has some strong feelings on that and Notre Dame fans aren’t going to be happy about them one bit.
When pegged a question about Notre Dame being an independent on Monday, Pinkel had this to offer up:
Gary Pinkel said no independents in @CFBPlayoff. “Give Notre Dame year to join a league. They don’t have independents in NFL"

While Coach Pinkel just bring up a pretty valid point, I’m not sure using the NFL as an example is the right way to go. If we want to start talking about what the NFL has and what College Football doesn’t have, then we’re going down a pretty dangerous road there. We’ve all had that conversation at one time or another.
But what won’t probably ever go away is people criticizing Notre Dame for their lack of affiliation in college football. While folks in South Bend will always have an argument for it, everyone else on the outside looking in will voice their displeasure over the situation.
Some believe that Notre Dame will eventually be forced to join somewhere, while others believe the status quo will always remain.
