Rockets could be signing center Chuck Hayes shortly
The Houston Rockets continue to add some depth pieces and could come to an agreement with center Chuck Hayes next.
A few days after acquiring point guard Ty Lawson in a trade with the Denver Nuggets, the Houston Rockets may be continuing their offseason build-up process by adding another key depth piece on Monday.

According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo, the Rockets are in talks with free agent center Chuck Hayes and the two parties could have something finalized quickly.
The 32-year-old Hayes would join a Rockets club that fell just short of the NBA Finals in 2014-15 and is trying to add quality depth pieces to help further the push next season. Hayes would join a roster that includes Dwight Howard, Clint Capela, Joey Dorsey, and Donatas Motiejunas. With a size an issue during the 2014-15 season, the Rockets are certainly looking to deepen their bench and contend in the paint.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent, Hayes spent the first six years of his 10-year career with the Houston Rockets. He’s also spent time with the Sacramento Kings and Toronto Raptors.
In six seasons with the Rockets, Hayes averaged 20.1 minutes per game, contributing 4.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest.
However, those averages dipped quite a bit upon leaving Houston. In those four years split between Sacramento and Toronto. In 14.9 minutes per night, Hayes averaged 2.5 points and 3.6 rebounds.
Needless to say, Chuck Hayes isn’t destined to be a major contributor to the Rockets. However, he’s a capable body to fill the lane and take some minutes off of the shoulders of Dwight Howard if he makes the team out of camp.
The Rockets still have other moves in play, including bringing back Jason Terry, which is looking likely with the pick-up of Lawson.
