8Ā of the 15 games are at night in MLB tonight, leaving most of the action in the big evening tournaments. Who are the players that can help win you some money? We will try to identify the favorites with past stats.

More from FanDuel

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science.

Here are my late FanDuel Picks for July 22, starting with the battery!

Catcher:

Best Bet:

Matt Wieters, Orioles ($2,600): Wieters has punished Ivan Nova so far in his career. Wieters is 11 for 31 (.355) with four walks, three doubles, four home runs, and seven RBI off of Nova. That makes Wieters one of the best bets at any position tonight.

Honorable Mention:

Evan Gattis, Astros ($3,400): Gattis is 3 for 5 with a walk, two doubles, and a RBI off of Wade Miley. That makes him a strong option tonight.

  • Pitcher:

    Best Bet:

Sonny Gray, Athletics ($9,900): The Blue Jays are a tough offensive team, but Gray has held the current Blue Jay roster to just seven hits in 43 at bats (.163) in his career with one homer and four RBI to go with ten strikeouts. The Jays are one of the best offenses around, but apparently not against Sonny Gray!

    Honorable Mention:

Lance Lynn, Cardinals ($9,600): If you don’t feel like starting anyone against the Blue Jays, here is another suitable option. Lynn has held the White Sox to a .216 average with six RBI and 17 strikeouts in 51 at bats. The runs are a little high, but so are the strikeouts, and let’s face it, the Sox lineup isn’t striking fear into any pitchers lately.

    If You’re Cheap:

C.J. Wilson, Angels ($7,900): This also goes against conventional wisdom. The Twins pound left handed pitching, but Wilson has been the exception. The Twins are hitting only .206 off of him in 131 at bats with two homers and 18 RBI. Wilson doesn’t strike out a lot of batters, so that puts him below the elite starters, but he could be a solid option tonight.

    Stay Away:

Ivan Nova, Yankees ($6,800): Wieters isn’t the only one that has clubbed Nova like a caveman clubbed his food. The entire Orioles team is hitting .290 in 169 at bats with ten home runs and 28 RBI. Stay far away from this one!

    Next: Next: The Corner Infielders

    First Base:

    Best Bet:

Chris Davis, Orioles ($3,400): Davis is 8 for 24 (.333) with two walks, a double, three home runs, and ten RBI off of Nova. You read that right. He has more RBI than hits off of Nova. You will likely use four Orioles hitters against Nova tonight.

    Honorable Mention:

Albert Pujols, Angels ($4,300): Pujols is 4 for 14 with a walk and three RBI off of Mike Pelfrey in his career. Pelfrey is prone to gopher balls, and Pujols has been hot for this whole month. I wouldn’t hesitate to play Albert here.

  • Third Base:

    Best Bet:

Brett Lawrie, Athletics ($2,800): There isn’t much to go on at third base tonight if you are using past stats. Lawrie’s 5 for 18 with two doubles is the best past line out there.

    Honorable Mention:

Alex Rodriguez, Yankees ($3,600): ARod has only faced Kevin Gausman twice, but he has a double off of him. Yes, that is the second best line of the night. I told you it was slim pickings at the hot corner.

    Next: Next: The Middle Infield

Jul 14, 2015; Cincinnati, OH, USA; American League second baseman Brian Dozier (2) of the Minnesota Twins runs the bases after hitting a solo home run against the National League during the eighth inning of the 2015 MLB All Star Game at Great American Ball Park. Mandatory Credit: Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

    Second Base:

    Best Bet:

Jose Altuve, Astros ($4,300): Altuve isn’t leading the majors in hits over the last two years by accident. He is 5 for 9 with two doubles off of Wade Miley. Expect at least one more hit tonight.

    Honorable Mention:

Brian Dozier, Twins ($3,900): Dozier has only faced C.J. Wilson five times, but he has three hits and a pair of RBI. Considering how well he hits lefties, It is only a matter of time before he knocks one out off of C.J.

  • Shortstop:

    Best Bet:

Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox ($2,900): Bogaerts is 2 for 5 with a walk, a double, and two RBI off of Collin McHugh. Shortstop is another shallow position for past stats, so Bogaerts it is!

    Honorable Mention:

Jhonny Peralta, Cardinals ($3,300): The Cardinals have two homers and 7 RBI off of John Danks. Peralta has all of those counting stats along with four doubles and seven walks. The .224 average makes him a stronger play in DraftKings, but his counting stats give him intriguing value in FanDuel as well.

Next: Who Are The Best Outfielders?

Jul 21, 2015; Anaheim, CA, USA; Minnesota Twins right fielder Torii Hunter before the game against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

    Outfield:

    Best Bets:

Jose Bautista, Blue Jays ($4,900): Remember how great Sonny Gray’s stats are against the Blue Jays? That includes Bautista, who is 4 for 6 with a two run homer off of Gray. Bautista has the only homer off of Gray and half of the runs driven in. If you play any Blue Jay today, it better be Bautista.

Torii Hunter, Twins ($3,000): For all of the struggles of Joe Mauer (3 for 28) and Kurt Suzuki (2 for 25) off of C.J. Wilson, Hunter is the Twin that helps make up for it. Torii is 11 for 36 (.306) with ten walks, two home runs, and eight RBI off of the veteran lefty. Hunter is a strong play tonight.

Andrew McCutchen, Pirates ($4,800): McCutchen is 5 for 13 with two walks, a double, a triple, and a solo home run off of Edison Volquez. Aside from Corey Hart who is on the DL, McCutchen is the only other Pirate that has been able to get to Volquez, which could temper his RBI opportunities.

    Honorable Mention:

Brett Gardner, Yankees ($4,100): Gardner is 3 for 10 with a solo home run off of Kevin Gausman. He could be worth a flier here tonight, but the price is a little steep.

Seth Smith, Mariners ($2,300): Smith is 6 for 19 (.316) with three walks, a double, two homers, and three RBI off of Anibal Sanchez. He will likely be a little owned player that could come up big for you tonight.

Dustin Ackley, Mariners ($2,500): Ackley has two hits in six at bats off of Anibal, but those two hits are a triple and a home run. When he gets a hit off Sanchez, he makes it count. He has also driven in a pair of runs off of him.
