NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science.

Here are my FanDuel pitcher picks for July 24:

Next: Which Ace Should You Pay For?

Jul 2, 2015; St. Petersburg, FL, USA; Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Corey Kluber (28) throws a pitch during the first inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

High Priced ($9,000 and up):

Best Bet:

Max Scherzer, Nationals ($12,000): If you’re paying for an ace, make it Scherzer. The Pirates are hitting a paltry .113 off of him in 115 at bats with three homers, seven RBI, and 46 strikeouts. I also like his chances against Jeff Locke to get the win. That makes Scherzer the best bet of the night.

Honorable Mention:

Corey Kluber, Indians ($11,000): Sure, there are others that have held their opponents to a worse average than the .251 that the White Sox are hitting off of Kluber, but he has held them to just two home runs and 11 RBI in 175 at bats. No one else can touch that ratio. He has also piled up 40 strikeouts against White Sox hitters.

Stay Away:

Chris Archer, Rays ($10,600): The Orioles have solved Chris Archer. They are hitting .300 off of him in 110 at bats with four homers, ten walks, and 19 RBI while striking out only 27 times. Those are by far the worst numbers of any ace against his opponent tonight.

Next: Who Is The Best Mid Range Option?

Jul 12, 2015; New York City, NY, USA; at Citi Field. Mandatory Credit: Noah K. Murray-USANew York Mets starting pitcher Jonathon Niese (49) delivers a pitch against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the seventh inning TODAY Sports

Mid Range ($7,200 – $8,900):

Best Bet:

Jon Niese, Mets ($7,700): Niese has held the Dodgers to a .205 average with just two homers and seven RBI in 117 at bats. Sure, he only has 20 strikeouts, but Niese should rack up some points. Temper expectations though because the Mets are not a good offensive team, and they are facing the hottest pitcher in the league right now in Zack Greinke.

Honorable Mention:

Andrew Cashner, Padres ($7,300): Cashner has held the Marlins to a .215 average in 65 at bats with no homers and six RBI. Add in the fact that the injured Giancarlo Stanton has two of those, and that makes Cashner an even better option against the anemic Marlins offense, who are also without Dee Gordon.

Stay Away:

Rick Porcello, Red Sox ($7,400): Porcello has only faced the Tigers twice in his career, and they were both abbreviated outings. Detroit hit .353 off of Porcello in 34 at bats with eight RBI. They haven’t taken him deep yet, but with that many base runners, does it really matter?

Next: Who Is The Best Cheap Option?

Jun 23, 2015; Pittsburgh, PA, USA; Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jeff Locke (49) delivers a pitch against the Cincinnati Reds during the first inning at PNC Park. Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Cheap Options ($7,100 and under):

Best Bet:

Jeff Locke, Pirates ($6,600): Locke has been surprisingly good against the Nationals. The team is hitting justĀ .184 off of him in 38 at bats with one lone RBI. He could be locked up in a pitcher’s duel with Max Scherzer, so his chances of getting a win are not great. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see him get double digit points though.

Honorable Mention:

Nick Tropeano, Angels ($5,600): Tropeano started against Texas once during his call up last year, and did pretty well, going 6.2 innings and giving up three runs on five hits and two walks. The thing I really like about Tropeano is his mound opponent, who has been pummeled by the Angels in his career. How bad is it? Let’s find out….

Stay Away:

Colby Lewis, Rangers ($6,600): The Angels are hitting am impressive .353 off of Lewis with eight homers and 34 RBI in just 139 at bats. Load your lineup with Angels today. They love to hit off Lewis!

Stay tuned for the hitter picks!
