The St. Louis Cardinals addressed a major need on Thursday afternoon. They acquired Brandon Moss from the Cleveland Indians. The Cardinals likely settled on Moss over Adam Lind because Moss can play the outfield as well, and with Matt Holliday back on the disabled list, Moss will likely play a lot while he is out.

The Cardinals have been on the lookout for a replacement for Matt Adams since he went down with a quad strain at the end of May. There is a chance that he could miss the rest of the season. Adam Lind of the Brewers was reported to be their favorite target, but when Matt Holliday re-aggravated his quad injury on Wednesday night, they needed the versatility of Moss.
Moss is hitting just .217 on the season, but he does have 15 home runs and 50 RBI. He should see more RBI opportunities with the Cardinals, but he will remain hard to own in standard leagues while his average is that low. His multi-position eligibility makes him a worthy streaming option during favorable matchups though.

Redbird Rants
The Cardinals will likely still platoon Mark Reynolds with rookie Stephen Piscotty at first base while Moss takes over in left field for the injured Holliday. Moss will receive a slight increase in value just from being in a better lineup. If you need a power boost in standard leagues, he is worth picking up. Another change of scenery may do him good.
Whether Moss still gets regular at bats when Holliday returns will depend on how he does in the meantime. If he performs well, he could push Piscotty to a bench role or back to the minors. If he struggles, Moss will likely be reduced to a pinch hitter and spot starter. If you can sell him for value in deeper leagues, it might not be a bad idea. However, if you are in position to gamble a little, you could reap rewards from hanging on to him.
The full deal looks like this:
Kaminsky, the 28th overall pick in the 2013 draft, was one of the best prospects in the Cardinals organization. He is listed at the best pitching prospect in Cleveland’s system now and the number three overall for them. He is 6-5 with a 2.09 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 94.2 innings pitched for high-A Palm Beach this year. He won’t be on the fantasy horizon for at least another year, but when he makes it, he could be a huge asset.
