There are only four games once again this afternoon, but unlike yesterday, there are plenty of stats to back things up. Only Michael LorenzenĀ has never faced his opponent (the Cardinals) before. Who are the best options for the matinee games? Letās go to the stat sheets!

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science.
Here are my early FanDuel picks for August 6:
Next: First Up: The Battery
Jul 27, 2015; St. Petersburg, FL, USA; Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez (19) throws a pitch during the first inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
Pitcher:
Best Bet:
Zack Greinke, Dodgers ($12,600): Greinke might be worth the extra money today. The Phillies are only hitting .164 off of him in 73 at bats with 24 strikeouts. However, they have taken him deep twice and picked up five RBI. Greinke does have good strikeout numbers, and has a superb chance for the extra win points facing off against David Buchanan.
Honorable Mention:
Anibal Sanchez, Tigers ($8,200): Sanchez has pitched very well against the Royals in his career. The boys in blue are hitting only .214 off of Sanchez in 234 at bats with just one home run and 13 RBI. They have only struck out 32 times though, which leaves Sanchez a notch below Greinke because of the low strikeout total. He also stands a great chance for the win facing off against the inconsistent Yordano Ventura.
If Youāre Cheap:
Matt Garza, Brewers ($6,200): Garza is worth mentioning because the current Padres roster is hitting just .210 off of him in 62 at bats with 22 strikeouts. Just be aware that he has given up four homers and 11 RBI. That said, he has a great chance for the win against the struggling Odrisamer Despaigne.
Stay Away:
Yordano Ventura, Royals ($8,000): Ventura has not fared well against the Tigers so far in his career. They are hitting .326 in 46 at bats while striking out only ten times. Ventura has limited the damage by only giving up two extra base hits, both doubles, to the Tiger offense, but with that many guys on base, there is little margin for error. He canāt stay this lucky with that many opponents on base.
Catcher:
Best Bet:
Victor Martinez, Tigers ($2,600): Martinezās 2 for 5 with a walk against Ventura is easily the best marks at the position, even though he has no counting stats.
The rest of the catchers have had either bad history (Salvador Perez is a brutal 2 for 17 against Sanchez) or no history at all. Outside of Martinez, I canāt really recommend anyone, but I can tell you that Perez and Carlos Ruiz (0 for 9 off of Greinke) are bad options.
Next: Next Up: Corner Infielders
Jul 27, 2015; St. Louis, MO, USA; Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto (19) hits a double against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports
First Base:
Best Bet:
Joey Votto, Reds ($3,800): Votto has managed to do pretty well against Michael Wacha so far. He is 6 for 15 with two walks, two doubles, and a solo home run. All without striking out. So long as Votto is putting the ball in play, he has a great chance for points.
Honorable Mention:
Eric Hosmer, Royals ($3,600): Hosmer is not what I would call a great option, but he is still a respectable 8 for 29 (.276) against Anibal Sanchez with three doubles and three RBI. You can do worse.
Third Base:
Todd Frazier, Reds ($3,400): Frazier is 5 for 19 (.263) with a walk, a double, and a solo home run off of Michael Wacha. That is as good as you can find for past stats today. Maikel Franco is 0 for 3 against Greinke. Yangervis Solarte has only faced Matt Garza twice, but he has come away with a walk and a RBI single. Mike Moustakas isĀ a miserable 3 for 18 off of Sanchez. Solarte at $3,200 is your next best option, but he doesnāt have much for power.
Next: Next: The Middle Infield
Aug 1, 2015; Baltimore, MD, USA; Detroit Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler (3) hits a ground rule double in the sixth inning against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Baltimore Orioles defeats Detroit Tigers 6-2. Mandatory Credit: Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports
Second Base:
Best Bet:
Ian Kinsler, Tigers ($3,800): Kinsler is 4 for 6 lifetime off of Yordano Ventura with a double and a pair of RBI. Considering all of the options at second base, Kinsler will likely be worth the money.
Honorable Mention:
Enrique Hernandez, Dodgers ($2,200): Hernandez only has one hit in five at bats against David Buchanan, but that one is a home run. Just make sure that he is in the lineup before using him.
Stay Away:
There are two players that will likely be highly used that merit mentioning here. Ben Zobrist ($4,000) is just 3 for 19 with no counting stats against Anibal Sanchez. Brandon Phillips is even worse (2 for 19 for a .105 average) against Michael Wacha. Let someone else deal with those headaches!
Shortstop:
Best Bet:
Alcides Escobar, Royals ($2,200): With Zack Cozart, who is 8 for 17 off of Wacha, out, Escobar is a solid plan B. He is hitting .320 (8 for 25) off of Anibal Sanchez with a rare (for him) home run and two RBI.
Honorable Mention:
Clint Barmes, Padres ($2,200): Barmes doesnāt always crack the starting lineup, so be able to check and make sure he is playing before putting him in your lineup. He is 4 for 15 (.267) with a walk, two homers, and six RBI off of Matt Garza. That should get the Padres to put him in the lineup today. If he is in theirs, consider putting him in yours.
Next: Last But Not Least, The Oufield
May 20, 2015; Detroit, MI, USA; Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Elian Herrera (3) hits an RBI single in the seventh inning against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Mandatory Credit: Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports
Outfield:
Best Bet:
Elian Herrera, Brewers ($2,200): Herrera is 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI off of Despaigne. There are a lot of bad options in the outfield today. Herrera is the best with any kind of history this afternoon. It is much easier for me to give you a list of guys to not play this afternoon. In fact, that is what I will do!
Stay Away:
Domonic Brown, Phillies ($2,800): Brown is just 1 for 12 against Greinke, but that one hit is a solo home run. He is a decent flier in DraftKings, but donāt use him in FanDuel.
Jay Bruce, Reds ($3,500): Donāt use Bruce under any circumstances! Rarely do you see a lefty this bad against a right handed pitcher. Bruce is 0 for 18 ā that is not a typo ā with nine strikeouts against Wacha. He did manage to draw a walk against him once, but that is the only positive for Bruce, who has been owned by Wacha so far.
Billy Hamilton, Reds ($2,900): That speed is intoxicating, but it wonāt do any good if he canāt get on base. Hamilton is just 1 for 18 with a walk and a double lifetime against Wacha. He is too much of a risk today.
Marlon Byrd, Reds ($3,000): No, this isnāt pick on Cincinnati day, but it sure looks like it. Byrd is 0 for 10 with a walk and a sac fly against Wacha. If youāre keeping score, the starting Reds outfield is 1 for 46 with three walks and a RBI against Wacha. Stay far away from all of them today!
Jarrod Dyson, Royals ($2,700): Dyson is just 3 for 24 against Sanchez in his career, but one of those hits was a double.
Alex Rios, Royals ($2,200): Rios is just 2 for 11 against Sanchez with a walk and four strikeouts. Avoid the Royals outfield too.
Lorenzo Cain, Royals ($3,900): The Royals outfield isnāt as bad as the Redsā today, but they arenāt very good either. Cain is the best of the bunch, checking in at 4 for 20 off of Sanchez. All of the hits are singles, and he hasnāt walked or struck out, so he could get lucky by putting the ball in play, but that is a high price for a maybe.
Stay tuned for the evening FanDuel lineups!
