Josh Gordon is going to miss this entire NFL season for his off field problems, of which we were accidentally reminded of today.
When Josh Gordon got into trouble last season, there was a plea to let him off the hook because the NFL had overly strong restrictions on certain substances. It worked too, as Gordon’s suspension was reduced and his reputation restored — until he got busted again and is now out of the league for the entire 2015 season.
Gordon hasn’t factored into any preseason training camp conversations and is — rightfully so — a complete and utter afterthought in football circles. But he popped back up in the news again on Monday for getting a DWI, or at least getting one last year.
In a tweet from 11 Alive News in Atlanta, the station reported that Gordon had been arrested and charged with a DWI. This sent Twitter ablaze with scorn for Gordon — except he didn’t do anything wrong.
It’s not that he was falsely accused or that it was a bogus report — it just wasn’t true in the slightest. The report itself was legit, but it was a report from last year detailing the DWI that got him busted and banned from the league for this season.
CLARIFICATION: While doing maintenance on our site, a 2014 story on Josh Gordon was auto-retweeted. Please note this story was from 2014.
— 11Alive News (@11AliveNews) August 10, 2015
At the beginning of the story, the station clarifies that the story was originally posted over a year ago and isn’t a recent report on Gordon.
"This story was originally posted on July 5, 2014. While doing maintenance on our site, this story was inadvertently auto-tweeted, and then others retweeted that old link. Josh Gordon was not arrested for DUI in 2015. This charge was for an incident that occurred on July 5, 2014."
While it’s not technically a false report, it was not an accurate tweet and the timing was off by — well, a year.
