The Pittsburgh Gazette is reporting that Suisham injured himself during the second half of the team’s Hall of Fame Game versus the Minnesota Vikings.
"Suisham has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and cartilage damage, and the team will almost surely place him on injured reserve, ending his season. The 10-year veteran was injured on the opening kickoff of the second half Sunday night’s first preseason game in Canton, Ohio, won by the Minnesota Vikings, 14-3."
The 33-year-old Suisham was entering his sixth year in Pittsburgh. A ten-year veteran, Suisham has a career field goal percentage of 84.1%. After a slow start to his career and bouncing between Dallas and Washington, Suisham has really caught fire in Pittsburgh. He’s hit 90% or better in three of the last four seasons, including a high-water mark of 93.8% in 2013.
Pittsburgh now must scramble to find a kicker roughly one month out from the regular season, likely from a grizzly veteran free-agent market.
