Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders has been diagnosed with cancer, according to the team.

The NBA offseason is full of moves that teams make to ensure they take a giant step forward the following season. That’s what the Minnesota Timberwolves did, but today brought a massive cloud over the organization in the worst and most devastating of ways.

According to a PR release from the Timberwolves, the team confirmed that head coach Flip Saunders has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

Saunders isn’t the first head coach to have been diagnosed with cancer while actively serving his duty. Chuck Pagano was the most famous recent case, and he had to take time away the Indianapolis Colts a few years ago and was able to beat it. That’s not only encouraging to those diagnosed with cancer but it gives hope that Saunders will come out of this alright.

Another encouraging sign is that the cancer Saunders has been diagnosed with is ‘treatable’. That’s a very positive sign that makes us feel a little bit more hopeful about how this will all work out. More over, Saunders isn’t going to be taking time away from the Timberwolves — which is incredible.

Saunders is a much beloved coach around the NBA, and this is a fight that he’s not battling alone as the entire NBA and fans from all over are standing with him as he fights the battle of his life.
