The Ricky Rubio era with the Minnesota Timberwolves might be coming to an end in the near future.

There was a time in the recent past where it looked like Ricky Rubio would be the future of the Minnesota Timberwolves. They drafted him ahead of Steph Curry, they waited two years for him to come over from Spain and they even held a max offer off the table for Kevin Love to earmark for Rubio.

Now it appears that the Rubio era might be coming to an end in the near future. While there are no current plans to move the guard it could be something that happens before the trade deadline passes in the winter.

According to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe, the Timberwolves are growing inpatient with Ricky Rubio which means the option of trading him might become more prevalent as the season picks up.

The Wolves are’t going to be trading Rubio before the season start, and they’re going to see how things play out with both him and Tyus Jones. But have no doubt, Jones is the guard of the future for the Wolves and pairing him with Andrew Wiggins as the dynamic duo of the franchise.

Rubio is being left out to dry, and really that’s what needs to happen. He hasn’t developed the way the team would have liked and this isn’t even the regime that drafted and wanted to groom Rubio. Flip Saunders is very particular about what he wants for this team and it’s growing clear that Rubio is not part of that.

There is interest in Rubio around the NBA, but the problem with wanting to move him is that they Wolves just gave him a new contract last summer. But with the arrival of Tyus Jones and the rise of the young roster, Rubio’s time with the team may be over. This is all really early speculation and Rubio could very well have a future with the team.

Only time will tell.
