Under Armour has made some new uniforms for Notre Dame and the Shamrock Series, and they’re awful.

When the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Boston College Eagles meet for the #ShamrockSeries — *eye roll* — this November, both squads will be rocking alternate uniforms provided by Under Armour.

Boston College’s jerseys will be throwbacks to the 1985 season. Here’s a sketch of how they’ll look:

Nothing flashy, sure, but that’s OK. The uniforms are understated and simple, and I like that.

Notre Dame, on the other hand, will be sporting these crimes against common sense:

No. Just no.

Look, I get that Notre Dame’s storied history includes some important games won while rocking green jerseys — Joe Montana, anyone? — but these Under Armour uniforms are not a great look. They make the players look like anthropomorphic green Mike and Ike candies, which despite the tastiness of Mike and Ike candies is not a compliment.

Manifesto: Apparel companies need to stop messing with Notre Dame. Remember when Adidas thought that these hideous basketball jerseys would be a good look? Yeah, they weren’t, and these Under Armour football duds aren’t much better.

One of the only good things about Notre Dame — heck, maybe the only good thing about Notre Dame — is the adherence to simple, classic uniforms. In a world where the Oregon Ducks and Baylor Bears are competing to see who can cause the most retinal damage, Notre Dame’s basic, boring uniforms are, weirdly, a breath of fresh air. Everyone wants to stand out and be flashy, but sometimes it is OK to be boring *goes back to eating plain oatmeal for breakfast*.
