Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell has been diagnosed with lymphoma

John Farrell broke some sad news on Friday afternoon to his team, when the Boston Red Sox manager announced that he has Stage 1 Lymphoma. Farrell has become a beloved figure in New England since leading the Red Sox to a World Series title in 2013, one of the most glorious moments in team history as the final out was recorded at Fenway Park.

Howard Herman of the Berkshire Eagle tweeted while Farrell was undergoing hernia surgery, doctors detected lymphoma.

Herman continued to report on the situation, saying that Farrell’s announcement to the team also was about him stepping down for the rest of the season as he begins nine months of chemotherapy. In his absence, Torey Lovello will be the interim manager in Boston.

Farrell is optimistic about catching the disease early saying that he expects to be back at spring training next year.

David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia both commented on the situation.

Though it’s always unfortunate for anyone to be diagnosed with any kind of cancer and have to go through the rigors of fighting the disease, it’s fortunate that it was caught early when there apparently weren’t any warning signs.

I think I speak for everyone, Red Sox fans and the rest of human beings alike, when I wish Farrell the best of luck in his fight and hope for a speedy recovery to where he can be back in the dugout in no time.
