Eric Berry returned to action on Saturday night in what was the most emotional moment of the season so far. 

When Eric Berry was diagnosed with cancer last season, fans in the NFL — particularly in Kansas City — were beside themselves. Here was a young star of the game being diagnosed with a life threatening disease that could drastically alter the course of his career and possibly take him away from the world.

That’s always the fear when we hear someone has been diagnosed with cancer, but we’re starting to hear more and more happy outcomes to those stories. That was the case on Saturday night in Arizona, when Berry returned to the field for the first time since his cancer diagnosis and since beating the disease over the summer.

Before he hit the field on Saturday night for the first time since being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and he shared the moment with his mother.

It was a road game in Arizona, but there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

If there’s a team more equipped to handle this type of a moment than the Cardinals, it’s probably only the Indianapolis Colts. That’s only because by extension it was like the Colts celebrating the return of Berry thanks to Bruce Arians role in everything. He was with Chuck Pagano when the head coach battled and eventually beat cancer a few years ago and he’s one of the most kind hearted head coaches in the game today.

This moment wasn’t about football, it was a human moment that just so happened to be based around football. Eric Berry beating his lymphoma is a triumph of the human spirit and the outpouring of support he received in Arizona was proof that there’s still plenty of good int he world to believe in.
