Having some off-the-field issues of their own as of late, the Florida State Football team got a visit from Maurice Clarett on Thursday

While they’re certainly not the only one, the Florida State Football program has endured its share of off-the-field issues recently. Winning the national championship in 2013 and making an appearance in the inaugural College Football Playoff in 2014, their issues are looked at under more of a microscope.

So, with that being the case, it’s a good idea for head coach Jimbo Fisher to bring in someone that has some experience in dealing with issues off the field to try and deter and future bad behavior. Well, when it comes to the game of football and experiencing off-the-field issues, there’s few with more experience in that department than former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett.

On Tuesday, as the college football season sits just two weeks away, Clarett paid a visit to Tallahassee, Fisher and the rest of the Florida State Seminoles.

Again, if anyone would know about dealing with issues off the gridiron, it’s Clarett. After helping lead Ohio State to the national championship as a freshman in 2002, the wheels came off someone we all thought could be remembered as one of the best backs to play college football. Being forced to sit out the next season for the Buckeyes, Clarett tried his hand at the NFL, but that didn’t work either. He just was never able to get out of his own say.

These days, though, he’s making the rounds and sharing his experiences with the players from today, hoping that they won’t make the same mistakes that he did that ultimately cost him what could have been a great football career.
