A look at the action that took place on Friday night between the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons in preseason action

Friday night NFL preseason action continued along, and one of the games that we saw was the Atlanta Falcons go on the road to take on the New York Jets. When all was in the books in this one, the Jets were able to come away with the 30-22 win.

The Jets had to come from behind in this one, as the Falcons jumped out an early 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the second quarter was all Jets, who walked into the locker room with a 16-10 lead. Part of that second quarter onslaught included a 33-yard Chris Ivory touchdown run.

New York was able to keep that momentum alive in the second half behind some pretty impressive play from rookie QB Bryce Petty.

With the win the Jets move to 1-1 in the preseason, while the loss drops the Falcons to the same record.

Three Stars of the Game

1) Devin Hester

No, Devin Hester of the Falcons did not take one to the house. But he most certainly provided one of the major highlights from this one, while at the same time proving to us all once again that he’s still one of the best return men in all the game.

In the first quarter, the Jets thought it would be a good idea to kick to Mr. Hester, and as we’ve seen countless times before, that proved to be a horrible idea. When it was all over, Hester had dazzled us with a 59-yard return, scorching the Jets in the process.

People will never learn that you do not kick it to this man.

2) Leonard Williams

For some reason or another teams in the NFL Draft were taking a pass on Williams out of USC, but the Jets were not one of them. On Friday night, he showed everyone why some teams may have made a mistake not putting him on their defensive line.

Early in the second quarter of this one, Williams recorded the first sack of his NFL career. Not only was it a sack on Matt Ryan, but it was for a safety as well. Certainly not a bad way to let everyone know you mean business right off the bat.

Then, a short time later, Williams would nearly record his second sack of the evening, leaving him with 1.5 for the game. If tonight was any indication, this kid is special.

3) Bryce Petty

Given everything that’s happened to Geno Smith, there are more eyes on rookie QB Bryce Petty than ever. Well, on Friday night he definitely turned some heads. When it was all said and done, Petty turned in a pretty impressive performance running the Jets offense, throwing for 168 yards on 12-of-19 passing with a touchdown. It’s showings like these that will keep him rising up that chart.

Odds

Coming into this one on Friday night, the Jets were a one-point favorite at home, so they were able to get that covered for themselves.

Next Week

From here, the Jets will now move on to to face the New York Giants next Saturday, while the Falcons go on the road to take on the Miami Dolphins, also on Saturday night.
