Daily Fantasy Baseball: Early FanDuel Picks For August 26

With only four teams (Mariners, Yankees, Astros, and Athletics) in action this afternoon, it limits our options in the FanDuel tournaments. In fact, there will likely be several of the same lineup. I will provide you will all of the previous statistics so you can make an informed decision.

More from FanDuel

A couple of the pitchers don’t leave much for us to go on, but so it goes with only four teams in action. This can be used as a guide to what may happen this afternoon. Players without a hit against today’s opponent will not be listed.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science.

Here are my early FanDuel picks for August 26:

Next: We Begin With The Battery

Aug 20, 2015; Houston, TX, USA; Houston Astros starting pitcher Collin McHugh (31) delivers a pitch during the fifth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at Minute Maid Park. Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Pitchers:

Felix Hernandez, Mariners ($11,200): Felix is no stranger to the A’s. He has faced the current roster 291 times. The A’s have 69 hits for a .237 average with four homers, 15 RBI, and 57 strikeouts. The potential is here for Felix to put up big numbers once again.

Michael Pineda, Yankees ($9,600): Pineda will return from the DL to start against Houston, a team that he has only faced 49 times in his career. The Astros only have ten hits off of him for a .204 average with just two RBI and a whopping 15 strikeouts. Pineda would be the best option of the day if I weren’t afraid of him being on a pitch limit!

Collin McHugh, Astros ($8,700): The current Yankee roster has only 38 at bats against McHugh, but they have mustered only two hits. That’s right. TWO! That is good for a .053 average. They have managed one lone RBI, and struck out an alarming 15 times!

Chris Bassitt, Athletics ($7,100): Bassitt may be a rookie, but he is no stranger to the Mariners. In two games, the Mariners have managed just a .136 batting average with two RBI. That said, Bassitt has only tallied three strikeouts. The low strikeout totals make him the least enticing option, but all of them are good for the afternoon slate.

My Pick: McHugh

Catchers:

Evan Gattis, Astros ($2,900): I would imagine that Gattis will be in the lineup at some capacity. He is 1 for 3 with a RBI triple against Pineda.

Jason Castro, Astros ($2,300): Castro does not have a hit in four at bats against Pineda, but he has managed a walk and a RBI.

Stephen Vogt, Athletics ($2,600): For whatever reason, Vogt has had King Felix’s number. He is an impressive 9 for 15 with two walks, a double, a triple, a home run, and two RBI off of Seattle’s ace. Oh, and he has not struck out either! Probably because he is so busy being on base.

My Pick: Vogt

Next: Next Up: The Corner Infielders

Aug 13, 2015; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Oakland Athletics second baseman Brett Lawrie (15) hits a double against Toronto Blue Jays in the second inning at Rogers Centre. Mandatory Credit: Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

First Base:

Billy Butler, Athletics ($2,200): First base is surprisingly thin if you are looking at past stats. Butler is 7 for 32 (.219) with three walks, two doubles, a home run, and three RBI against King Felix. He could provide some points at a bargain price.

Chris Carter is 0 for 7 with a walk off of Pineda. Logan Morrison has also earned a walk in three at bats against Bassitt, but no one else has a hit.

My Pick: Butler

Third Base:

Alex Rodriguez, Yankees ($3,600): ARod has a single in three at bats against McHugh. That is great successĀ compared to the rest of his teammates.

Danny Valencia, Athletics ($3,300): Valencia has three singles and a walk against Felix. The bad news? That is the only fruits of his labor in 21 at bats. That’s right. No extra bases and no counting stats.

Brett Lawrie, Athletics ($3,000): Lawrie is 6 for 16 (.375) against Felix, but he has driven in three runs. You can’t complain too much about the lack of extra base hits. At least he is getting on base!

Luis Valbuena, Astros ($2,400): Valbuena is a cheap starter, but he has only one single in five at bats against Pineda. Chances are he won’t come out with positive points.

Kyle Seager, Mariners ($3,200): Seager has a single in three at bats against Bassitt.

My Pick: Lawrie

Next: Next Up: The Middle Infield

Aug 23, 2015; Houston, TX, USA; Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa (1) with an RBI single during the sixth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Minute Maid Park. Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Second Base:

Jose Altuve, Astros ($3,900): Altuve hasĀ a single in four at bats against Pineda. Altuve’s ability to get on base against anyone always makes him a solid option.

Eric Sogard, Athletics ($2,300): Sogard is a respectable 9 for 34 (.265) against Felix with two walks, but all of the hits are singles, and he only has one RBI.

My Pick: Altuve

Shortstop:

Marcus Semien, Athletics ($2,600): Semien has also hit Felix well. He is 4 for 8 with two solo home runs off of him. That is half of the home run total of the entire Oakland team against him in just eight at bats!

Carlos Correa, Astros ($3,900): Correa has two hits, both doubles, in just three at bats against Pineda. He hasn’t driven anyone in, but that isn’t entirely his fault.

My Pick: Correa

Next: How Does The Outfield Look?

Aug 22, 2015; Bronx, NY, USA; New York Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner (11) rounds the bases on his two run home run during the first inning against the Cleveland Indians at Yankee Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

Outfield:

Nelson Cruz, Mariners ($4,900): Cruz is 1 for 3 with a double against Chris Bassitt. If you have the extra money, his ability to go deep almost at will makes him a solid play.

Brett Gardner, Yankees ($3,100): Gardner has a single, a walk, and the team’s only RBI against Collin McHugh. Does that make him worth playing today?

Preston Tucker, Astros ($2,700): Tucker is 1 forĀ 3 with a single against Michael Pineda.

Colby Rasmus, Astros ($2,600): Rasmus is just 1 for 6 with a single and four strikeouts against Pineda. If you take Pineda as your pitcher, you definitely hope the Astros play Rasmus. Otherwise, you are probably indifferent.

Billy Burns, Athletics ($2,700): Burns has two singles in seven at bats against King Felix. If he is on base, he is a legitimate threat to turn one point into three very quickly.

Josh Reddick, Athletics ($2,600): Reddick is a miserable 4 for 47 (.149) with a walk, two doubles, one RBI, and nine strikeouts against Felix. You can do better than taking this much ofĀ a chance.

Seth Smith, Mariners ($2,400): Smith has a single, a walk, and two RBI in his only game against Bassitt. He could be a cheap source of points if you need to save money.

Jake Marisnick, Astros ($2,300): Marisnick has a single in two at bats against Pineda, and he has the speed to make the Yankees pay if he gets on base.

Coco Crisp, Athletics ($2,200): Crisp is 16 for 67 (.239) off of King Felix with four walks, a double, a triple, and a pair of RBI. The bad news (besides the lower than optimal batting average) is that he has struck out 14 times.

My Picks: Cruz, Gardner, and Carlos Gomez
