All 30 teams are available in the big tournaments tonight, so there are plenty of good and bad options. Let’s take a look at which is which.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science.

We will give the you best options whether you are looking so spend big on a pitcher, or to save some money and try to make it up with offense. I’ve got you covered!

Next: Who Is The Best High Priced Option?

Aug 18, 2015; San Diego, CA, USA; San Diego Padres starting pitcher James Shields (33) reacts after getting out of the fourth inning with the bases loaded on a double play against the Atlanta Braves at Petco Park. Mandatory Credit: Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

High Priced ($8,500 and up):

Best Bet:

Jake Arrieta, Cubs ($11,200): The current Giants hitters only have 55 at bats against Arrieta, but that have been pretty bad. They have struck out more times (13) than they have hits (11), and have only driven in three runs. Two of those were driven in by Buster Posey, who does not have a hit off Arrieta in six official at bats. There is enough of a track record here to realize that Arrieta is worth paying for.

Honorable Mention:

James Shields, Padres ($8,900): Shields has pitched very well against the Nationals in his career. The current roster is hitting just .176 off of him in 91 at bats with only four RBIĀ to 20 strikeouts. That said, he has not faced Bryce Harper, Adam LaRoche, Ian Desmond, or Jayson Werth. Take it for what you will. He could be a nice way to save some money, but then again, maybe not.

Stay Away:

Stephen Strasburg, Nationals ($10,000): This is not an indictment of Strasburg, but rather a testament to how good the upper echelon is tonight. The Padres have only hit .229 in 105 at bats off of Strasburg, but they have clubbed six home runs and driven in 19. The 36 strikeouts are nice, but it doesn’t quite make up for the homers. Justin Upton and Melvin Upton (B.J.) each have two off of the Nationals young star.

Next: Is There A Middle Tier Option That Could Perform Like An Ace?

Aug 20, 2015; Anaheim, CA, USA; Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Jose Quintana (62) during the first inning of the game against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Mandatory Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Mid Range Options ($7,500-$8,400):

Best Bet:

Jose Quintana, White Sox ($8,300): Quintana has performed well against the current Boston lineup. They are hitting only .184 off of him in 49 career at bats with just three RBI. Quintana only owns seven strikeouts, but he has also only walked one. If he has done that well at keeping these guys off base, you don’t have to worry too much about the lack of strikeouts. The points will still be there.

Honorable Mention:

Jered Weaver, Angels ($7,600): I almost went with Derek Holland here because he has held the Blue Jays to a .207 average, but Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnacion have hit him hard and he has not faced Troy Tulowitzki. There is just too much right handed power in that lineup for me to trust Holland, so Weaver it is! The Tigers have managed a decent .242 average off of Weaver in 194 at bats with four homers and 19 RBI, but they have also struck out 27 times.

Stay Away:

Mark Buehrle, Blue Jays ($8,000): Buehrle finds himself in a familiar position. Where the stats support not using him. He has bucked that trend many times this year as you can see by hit 13-6 record and 3.45 ERA. The Rangers are hitting .307 off of him in 199 at bats with six homers and 19 RBI, but they have struck out 35 times. There may be a silver lining here, but the stats say Holland over Buehrle. The eye test may say otherwise.

Next: Is There A Great Low Priced Option Tonight?

Aug 19, 2015; St. Louis, MO, USA; San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain (18) throws to a St. Louis Cardinals batter during the first inning at Busch Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

Low Priced ($7,400 and under):

Best Bet:

Matt Cain, Giants ($6,500): Cain has had a dreadful season, but he has performed well against the Cubs in his career. The North Siders are hitting only .213 off of him in 178 career at bats with four homers and 19 RBI with a nice total of 45 strikeouts. If he can keep away from Miguel Montero, who has two of the homers and nine of the RBI, Cain could be a sneaky play tonight.

Honorable Mention:

Miguel Gonzalez, Orioles ($6,900): Gonzalez’s career numbers against KC are pretty good. The Royals are only hitting .205 off of him in 88 at bats with two homers, 12 RBI, and 16 strikeouts. The savvy of us though might take the opposing starter, Danny Duffy, for $500 less. He has only faced Baltimore once and pitched well. Oh, and the Orioles are about as cold as you can get lately. This is another one where the numbers may not tell the whole story.

Stay Away:

Ervin Santana, Twins ($6,900): I don’t care how hot the Twins are. I’m not taking Ervin. The Indians are hitting .288 off of him in 146 at bats with six homers, and as many RBI as strikeouts (26). You can do better, even if you are looking to go cheap.

Stay tuned for the hitter picks!
