South African footballer Siphiwe Tshabalala had the best goal we’ll see all year this weekend
Siphiwe Tshabalala is a name that is certainly recognizable, but one that you may have only heard once before. The South African midfielder scored the first goal of the 2010 World Cup as the host nation took on Mexico. Tshabalala also may have scored the goal of the year for 2015 this weekend.
Unless you were watching the South African Premier League on Saturday, you missed Tshabalala netting this wonder-strike from incredibly long-range:
There are players playing in the biggest leagues in the world who might not be able to put forth a strike that perfect when the ball is sitting completely still 10 yards away. Tshabalala hit a rocket upper-90 from close to 40 yards out on a volley. That’s absolutely insane.
Tshabalala’s goal put his Kaizer Chiefs team ahead of the Free State Stars by a count of 4-0, which was eventually the final tally for the second-placed team in the South African Premier League.
Tshabalala may have been best known for his brief moment of fame in the 2010 World Cup, but after this goal he’s going to be famous for many years to come. That’s the goal of the year and one of the best goals in a long time in any competition.
