Notre Dame looked impressive on Saturday night, but they’ll have to go the rest of the way without their running back Tarean Folston
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish enjoyed a nice opening win on Saturday night over the Texas Longhorns, but the win came with a price. That price being that starting running back Tarean Folston is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a tear in his MCL. Head coach Brian Kelly announced the news on Sunday during his teleconference, ESPN is reporting.
With 889 yards last season, Folston was the leading rusher coming into this year for a Notre Dame team that some consider a contender for the College Football Playoff if they can run the table –or at least come close– on that daunting schedule. However, those plans just got a little harder with the news that Folston will be out for the year.
Folston left the game on Saturday night with the injury during the Irish’s second drive of the game on offense.
With this news, the bulk of the carries will now go to C.J. Prosise and Josh Adams who stood in for Folston while he was away getting the knee checked out. Of the two backs, Prosise looked the most promising, rushing for 98 yards.
Still, the loss of your leading rusher from last season is devastating and a lot more of the offensive load is now put on quarterback Malik Zaire, who mightily impressed on Saturday night.
