Florida State routed Texas State in their opener on Saturday night
By the time the first quarter ended, FSU had a commanding lead over Texas State, scoring 14 unanswered point. The second quarter, however, belonged to the Bobcats who scored 10 points to FSU’s seven. Though Florida State ended the half with an 11-point lead, there were many points during the first half where Texas State seemed on the cusp of taking over the lead. Unfortunately, missteps and quick adjustments by the Seminoles prevented the Bobcats from turning the tables on their No. 10 ranked opponent.
After halftime, FSU scored 38 points while Texas State could only muster up another six. When all was in the books, the Seminoles ran away with this one easily, 59-16.
Three Stars
FSU sophomore running back and Miami-native Dalvin Cook is coming off of a 1,008-yard 2014 season when he averaged nearly six yards per carry. Saturday evening, Cook kept up his dominant trend from 2014, finishing the game with 18 carries for 143 yards.
Everett Golson is attempting to fill the void left by former quarterback Jameis Winston, the top pick in the 2015 draft. While Golson got off to a slow start, he was able to target a variety of receivers, including Travis Rudolph and Ryan Izzo for touchdowns. He finished the game 19-of-25 with 302 yards and four touchdown passes.
Aside from the performance that Cook put on, Mario Pender also shined in the backfield and showed that Florida State has quite the dangerous tandem on their hands. In addition to the production that Cook had, Pender added in 14 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown.
Odds
The Seminoles were favored 33.5 points over Texas State, so they were able to cover that large spread.
Next Week
Next week, FSU will take on USF Bulls in an away game on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. ET. The Seminoles are strong favorites to win. Texas State’s next match up is at home in San Marcos Texas against Prairie View A&M on Saturday evening.
