Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott broke loose for a monster 80-yard touchdown run against Virginia Tech
Ezekiel Elliott was loosely involved in the Ohio State Buckeyes’ first touchdown drive in their season-opener against the Virginia Tech Hokies. The star running back got some touches, but the drive largely featured quarterback Cardale Jones. Their second scoring drive featured Elliott and Elliott alone.
Starting at their 20-yard line, Urban Meyer called a run up the gut for Elliott on the first play of the drive. The big Buckeyes offensive line opened up a massive hole for Elliott and he found it. After that, it was nothing but a trail of dust behind him:

There was absolutely nothing that the Hokies could have hoped to do there. Elliott is too big, powerful, smart, and fast for Virginia Tech defenders to have any hope on that kind of play. I supposed that’s why he’s one of—if not the absolute—best running backs in the country.
With Elliott capable of busting through holes and then breaking free like that, the Ohio State offense would be dangerous enough. Couple him with the talent of Jones at quarterback and this offense could be even better than advertised.
