Ohio State looked dominant early, but now Virginia Tech has them on upset alert going into halftime.
The Ohio State Buckeyes looked every bit deserving of their number one ranking in the preseason polls early on in their season-opener against the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Buckeyes rolled on their first drive that resulted in a Cardale Jones touchdown pass. Their second drive included one play that happened to be an 80-yard Ezekiel Elliott touchdown run. However, they’re now looking in danger of being upset.
After going down 14-0, the Hokies seemed to gain their composure rather than get down and feel overwhelmed. They started their comeback with a massive play that sent fullback Sam Rogers on a wheel route and eventually allowed him to find the endzone. Another drive resulted in a field goal for Virginia Tech.
However, it’s the Hokies defense and special teams that has really showed up big. Having already forced one turnover, the Hokies then came up with a huge play in the return game with the score at 14-10 in favor of the Buckeyes. The Hokies swarmed Ezekiel Elliott on a punt return and the star running back coughed it up. Virginia Tech recovered.
That fumble recovery led to a short field for the Hokies, which they capitalized on with a touchdown pass to tight end Ryan Malleck:

Ohio State didn’t have time to do much after the touchdown and now the defending National Champions go into the locker room for halftime trailing the same team that handed them their only loss last season. Is another upset brewing for the Hokies in Blacksburg?
