Derek Holland, a left-handed starter for the Texas Rangers, is now proudly sporting a Rick Vaughn-esque, “Wild Thing” haircut from Major League.

Derek Holland has decided to mix it up a bit in the haircut department, opting to have his haircut in the style of Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn from the 1988 movie Major League. Actor Charlie Sheen, who played Vaughn in the film, was there in the Rangers locker room to check out Derek Holland’s flattering hairdo.

Sheen is a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, but after seeing Derek Holland sporting his character’s iconic hairstyle, Charlie had to take a closer look. He met up with Holland in Anaheim when the Rangers were playing the Angels. After further inspection, Sheen approves of the hairstyle.

When asked about where the southpaw got the idea to cut his hair in honor of “Wild Thing,” Holland said, “It was one of my friend’s actually. They came up with it and we had actually talked about this a long time ago…They finally talked me into it…I definitely did the haircut to change it up. I got to enjoy myself. That’s what it’s all about.”

With the Texas Rangers holding on to the second AL Wild Card Spot and just two games back of AL West leading Houston Astros, it makes sense for a prominent member of the Rangers rotation to opt to keep it loose with a crazy haircut. The fact that Sheen digs it is all the more reason for Derek Holland to keep it through the playoff push, perhaps even longer.

Even if Holland or the Texas Rangers stumble down the stretch, baseball became more fun knowing that he draws inspiration from Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn.  Expect The Troggs’ classic to blast in Arlington whenever Holland takes the mound for the rest of the season.  “Wild Thing, you make my hear sing.”
