High Priced Quarterbacks

Aaron Rodgers-Green Bay Packers (9,700): Rodgers is 500 FanDuel dollars clear of the rest of the QB in pricing this week despite being without his top WR after losing Jordy Nelson for the season.  However, in his favor is that the Bears struggled to defend opposing QB’s last year and were repeatedly torched including in their two games against Green Bay. Last year, Rogers there for 300 yards in both of his games against the Bears throwing four touchdowns in their first meeting and a season-high six scores when the teams met in week 10.  If you have the money to spend on a big-name pass thrower, Rodgers is the safest elite pick on the board which is why his salary is so high. Even without Nelson, Rodgers is the best QB your FanDuel salary can buy.

Tony Romo-Dallas Cowboys (8,700): Another top-10 quarterback taking on a division rival this week in a matchup that I like is Tony Romo. Romo faces his NFC East division rival Giants in Dallas on Sunday Night Football.  In his two matchups with the Giants last season, Romo threw for 275 and 279 yards with three touchdown throws in Dallas and four when the teams met at Giants Stadium.  Romo’s overall numbers were solid last year but his attempts were way down due to the success of the Dallas running game.  With DeMarco Murray in Philadelphia, Romo will likely need to throw the ball more, and I think there’s a good change that Sunday Night’s game turns into an NFC East shootout with Romo firing up plenty of fantasy points. Given the matchups each is facing, if you can’t afford Rodgers, Romo would be my second pick ahead of the other elite QB’s priced ahead of him on FanDuel (including Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, and Matt Ryan).

Ryan Tannehill-Miami Dolphins (8,000): Tannehill looked good throughout the preseason and could be in store for a leap into the top-10 QB’s this season.  He has some nice weapons in second-year receiver Jarvis Landy, newly signed Kenny Stills, and rookie wideout DeVante Parker. Tannehill and the Dolphins open in Washington against a dysfunctional Redskins team which should be vulnerable to attack through the air.  Tannehill is the 12th most expensive QB this week, but I think he’ll be able to post one of the top 10 performances.
