Last week, two ranked teams were beaten by unranked opponents. What five college football teams are on upset alert heading into Week 2?

Week 1 of the 2015 college football season is in the books, and most of the season opening matchups went according to plan. However, as is the case seemingly every week, there were several teams on upset alert and a couple of outright upsets.

More from College Football

Ranked No. 21 in the pre-season AP Top 25, Stanford was the biggest tree to fall, as the Cardinal inexplicably lost 16-6 on the road against Northwestern. Arizona State, ranked No. 15, also lost to an unranked opponent and fell out of the polls, but the Sun Devils were actually a slight underdog to Texas A&M according to Las Vegas oddsmakers.

Among others that struggled were No. 2 TCU, who beat Minnesota 23-17 on the road, and sixth ranked Auburn, who played with fire in the second half of their 31-24 victory over Louisville despite opening up a 24-0 lead. Elsewhere, No. 22 Arizona outlasted UTSA 42-32 and No. 23 Boise State defeated Washington and former head coach Chris Petersen in his return to The Blue by a narrow 16-13 margin.

The great thing about college football upsets is that we don’t often see them coming. However, there are a few clues you can use to predict the teams will be on upset alert. One of the best indicators is a favored and ranked team playing on the road, which is exactly the case for four of the five college football teams that should be on notice in Week 2.
