Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire had to leave the game with an ankle injury in the third quarter

Malik Zaire has been the bread and butter of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish offense through the first game and a half of the 2015 college football season. His ability to throw the ball coupled with his rushing ability have made him a potent weapon for the Irish. Just as he was hitting his stride on Sunday against the Virginia Cavaliers, things went awry for Zaire and the Irish.
Zaire took off running, trying to make something happen with his legs. A gang of Cavaliers defenders swarmed upon him and one of them happened to fall on his ankle. Be warned, his ankle bent in ways that an ankle should not be bending:

Zaire was down on the turf for a bit after that and then was taken to the sideline. The Irish scored on the very next play and, after the kickoff, Zaire was helped trainers to the locker room by trainers. Though there’s no official word, it doesn’t seem like the star quarterback for the Fighting Irish is going to be finishing this Saturday against UVA. The bigger question is if he will be healthy enough to help Notre Dame finish the season.
