Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire does indeed have a fractured ankle and he will miss the rest of the season

Saturday afternoon the Notre Dame Fighting Irish survived quite the scare on the road from the Virginia Cavaliers, pulling away right at the end for the 34-27 win. Despite the win, though, starting quarterback Malik Zaire went down with quite the gruesome ankle injury and he was taken back to the locker room for immediate tests.

Well, those tests have apparently come back and Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly has made the announcement that Zaire will miss the rest of the 2015 season with a fractured ankle.

If you missed the injury, you can watch it here.

This is terrible news for a young man that, just last week in the demolition of Texas, looked poised to make a potential run at the Heisman Trophy. Now, those hopes are completely out the window as he will have to rehab this horrific leg injury.

In his place for the time being will be DeShone Kizer, who stepped in for Zaire on Saturday in the win over Virginia and threw that game-winning touchdown pass to William Fuller with time ticking down.
