When the Detroit Lions drafted Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah this past spring, many pointed to that as one of the steals in the draft. In the Lions’ offense, it was pretty much understood that he could thrive in that system immediately.
Well, in his first game with the Lions on Sunday as they open up the season against the San Diego Chargers, Abdullah wasted no time in validating the claims of those people who said he was a steal. No, really, he didn’t waste any time because he blew the doors open on his first NFL carry.
In the first quarter of this one, Abdullah took the hand off from Matthew Stafford and he proceeded to speed 24 yards to the house for his first professional score.
Yeah, that…that really didn’t take all that long. It seems as if the Lions did indeed get one of the steals of the draft in Abdullah. If this young man can keep this up, then he brings a whole new dimension to this Lions offense, which is already dangerous.
