The New York Jets dispatched the Cleveland Browns in a season opener blowout at home.

10. 53. Final. 31. 16

The Cleveland Browns elected to make Josh McCown the starting quarterback for the 2015 NFL season. That narrative changed quickly in the season opener against the New York Jets, when McCown left with an injury and Johnny Manziel came into the game.

It looked like it could be promising, but vintage NFL-Manziel reared his head and the Jets ran away with the game after his promising first drive.

Three stars

  1. Travis Benjamin, WR, Browns – Benjamin had three catches for 83 yards, including the 54-yard touchdown bomb from Manziel.
  2. Brandon Marshall, WR, Jets – Marshall had six catches for 62 yards and a touchdown. He also had an incredible fumble recovery.
  3. Calvin Pryor, S, Jets – Pryor had 10 tackles, eight of which were solo.

Highlights

The big highlight of the game was Manziel’s first career touchdown pass, a 54-yarder to Travis Benjamin. That pass gave the Browns a lead early in the game.

Marshall also made an incredible play. After Browns safety Tashaun Gipson intercepted the ball, Marshall stripped him of it and recovered the fumble.

Odds

Odds Shark favored the Jets with a spread of -3.5. They covered with ease.

Next Week

Next week the Browns host Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans. That game offers them an opportunity to bounce back from a disappointing season opener.

The Jets on the other hand aren’t as fortunate. They’re heading to Indianapolis to play the Colts, a team looking for a big win after losing their opener to the Buffalo Bills.
