Referee breaks his collarbone in Broncos-Ravens game
By Josh Hill
Players aren’t the only ones at risk of injury on a football field, something we saw on Sunday in Denver.
When you’re on an NFL field during a game, you run the risk of becoming a casualty of the action. That extends beyond just the players on the field, as even officials need to watch out for themselves or they might end up getting hurt and having to leave the game as a result. That’s what happened in Denver on Sunday afternoon in the early portion of the Broncos-Ravens showdown.
NFL Line judge Gary Arthur was blindsided on a punt return and needed to be carted off the field.
What was most remarkable about this is how chill Arthur was when he went down and broke his collarbone. Most people would be writhing in pain, but Arthur seemed more angry that he was being taken out of the game than the fact that he had a broken collarbone at the moment.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen an official take a shot during a game, but you have to give Arthur all the credit in the world for being such a champ about breaking his collarbone and seemingly wanting to not be removed from his post.
