Notre Dame vs Georgia Tech, 30-22: Full highlights, final score and more
DeShone Kizer was handed the tough task of replacing star quarterback Malik Zaire and he stepped up in a win against Georgia Tech.
Notre Dame fans were holding their breath after quarterback Malik Zaire went down last Saturday against Virginia. Hoping to see the the star quarterback get back up and trot to the sideline to get checked out, it just didn’t happen.
Zaire suffered a season-ending fractured ankle injury and the College Football Playoff hopes for the No. 8-ranked Fighting Irish seemed to be flushed down the toilet.
Luckily for Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish have a serviceable backup quarterback in sophomore stud DeShone Kizer. Not many have expected this young kid to come in and lead the Fighting Irish past the No. 14-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, but he did just that on Saturday in South Bend.
Notre Dame took down the Yellow Jackets, in somewhat of a surprise victory, while being underdogs, 30-22, at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Three Stars
DeShone Kizer has to be the first, and most obvious choice, as the sophomore quarterback completed 21-of-30 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown. He did, however, throw his first career interception.
Notre Dame running back C.J. Prosise finished the day with 198 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries. He is really coming into his own in the backfield.
Last, and certainly not least. Notre Dame receiver Will Fuller was a stud, catching six passes for 131 yards and a touchdown. It was tough to give any Georgia Tech players a spot on this list of stars since no one stood out.
Highlights
Odds
The line for the game was Georgia Tech by 2.5 points and clearly, they did not cover the spread. If you picked Notre Dame, you’re probably very happy.
Next Week
Notre Dame will host UMass on Sept. 26 in sort of a “down week” as DeShone Kizer will arguably get the easiest test of his young career thus far. No odds have been released for this one yet, but the Fighting Irish look to be big-time favorites. Notre Dame will be battling for a shot to start the season 4-0 going into the heart of the schedule.
Georgia Tech will be looking to rebound in week four against Duke on the road in Durham, N.C. The Yellow Jackets will be looking to win their first conference game of the year and take down a team which was just beaten for the first time in 2015 this week. A leg up in the ACC race is on the line.
