SMU Mustangs vs. No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs

Trevone Boykin and the very talented No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs are off to a scorching-hot start to the 2015 season, just like everyone thought they would do. After narrowly beating Big Ten foe Minnesota on the road in a tough opener, the Horned Frogs put the beat down on Stephen F. Austin in week two.

Gary Patterson’s team has a legitimate chance to win the national title this year with a quarterback who has started in parts of all four years at TCU. Right now, Boykin leads an offense that averages over 530 yards of total offense per game, including his 531 yards and five touchdowns.

The run game isn’t as impressive as Patterson would have hoped, but the carries are spread out over about six players. As for the defense, the secondary is having a tremendous showing through two weeks, only allowing 109 yards per game through the air.

Surprisingly, SMU’s main threat comes in the ground game. The Mustangs average only 168 yards through the air, which will likely remain the same after this week, but an impressive 238 yards per contest on the ground.

Junior quarterback Matt Davis may not be getting big gains through the air, but he’s busy leading the rushing attack. Davis has 337 yards and four touchdowns in the pass game while rushing for a team-high 240 yards and two touchdowns on 41 carries.

Defensively, the Mustangs struggle quite a bit, especially through the air, giving up about 480 yards per game through two weeks. Boykin may be in for a big day.
