Baltimore Ravens vs. Oakland Raiders

Baltimore travels to Oakland on Sunday afternoon with the hope of putting last week’s poor performance against the AFC rival Broncos. The Ravens were basically non-existent on the offensive side of the ball while the defense was solid as always.

Oakland, on the other hand, is also coming off a loss in week one, but with Derek Carr at full strength by kickoff, anything is possible for this young team.

Keys to Victory

Baltimore Ravens

When Baltimore takes the field on Sunday afternoon on the West Coast, it will be looking to zero in on Derek Carr, Amari Cooper and Latavius Murray. While that seems like a solid plan seeing as those three are the biggest threats on offense, the Ravens can’t let another guy break free from an otherwise ‘depleted’ roster, such as Michael Crabtree.

As for the offense, the Ravens need to make sure to take advantage of the possibility of Charles Woodson being ruled out at game time. Joe Flacco had a miserable game against Denver last week, completing 18-of-32 passes for 100 yards and two interceptions. He will need to make sure to hit Steve Smith Sr. more and young targets like Maxx Williams as well. He has the weapons, just needs to utilize them.

Oakland Raiders

Matt McGloid played fairly well in place of an injured Derek Carr last week, but it wasn’t enough to top the Cincinnati Bengals. However, Carr will be back in the starting lineup for this tough matchup and he will need to stay healthy if the Raiders want to even have a shot at winning, with all due respect to McGloin.

Latavius Murray had a difficult time running the ball as well and that may have put more pressure on the inexperienced quarterback. He will need to have one of his better days while more guys than just Cooper, Crabtree and himself need to step up in the receiving game.

Also, we found out last week that if you limit Flacco to short passes, good things will happen.

Prediction

Baltimore’s defense is just too good and Oakland isn’t quite ‘there’ yet. Although O.co Coliseum is a tough place to play on Sundays in front of rowdy crowds, the Ravens have enough experience in big games to overcome the atmosphere.

Joe Flacco will have a comeback performance and Justin Forsett will also have a solid game with 100-plus yards on the ground and a score. Expect to see more of the much-anticipated Carr-Cooper connection on the other side of the field.

Final Score: Baltimore 24, Oakland 17
