The New York Jets are leading the Indianapolis Colts in the first quarter of Monday Night Football, following a quick turnover and a touchdown strike from Ryan Fitzpatrick to Eric Decker.

After punting on their first possession, New York pinned Indianapolis deep and brought the blitz, forcing a poor throw by Andrew Luck. The ball was brought in by second-year man Calvin Pryor, who returned the ball inside Indianapolis’ 10-yard line. On third and goal, Fitzpatrick threw the ball away but a flag came down on Colts cornerback Vontae Davis for holding Brandon Marshall, giving New York another set of downs.

From there, Fitzpatrick found Decker in the center of the end zone for an easy score, putting the underdogs up by a touchdown. Indianapolis was picked by many to win the Super Bowl this season, but this group has a long way to go before it can be considered a contender. The Colts have a rancid offensive line and the defense is nothing to write home about.

However, the Colts have ample time to figure things out in the AFC South, because the other three teams belong in the MAC. Indianapolis will be fine in terms of reaching the playoffs, but this year is about getting to the big game. Unless Luck can single-handedly put this team on his back, that appears to be a pipe dream with a roster that has more holes than Swiss cheese.

It is amazing general manager Ryan Grigson did not draw more heat this offseason when he failed to upgrade the secondary and offensive line in the NFL Draft, instead taking a receiver in the first round.
