It’s one good game and out for Johnny Manziel. After putting up solid numbers in Cleveland’s Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans, the Browns have benched Manziel in favor of incumbent starter Josh McCown.

McCown was knocked out of the season opener against the New York Jets when he suffered a concussion during a play that sent him whirling into the end zone.

Prior to last week’s game, Ian Rapoport had reported that once McCown cleared concussion protocol he would return to his starting duties. Despite Manziel’s steady outing against the Titans, Cleveland has held fast to its word.

Against the Titans, Manziel went 8-for-15 for 172 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions. As in his mop-up duty against the Jets, he was able to hook up on a long strike to Travis Benjamin and ignite the offense. However, an improvement from that outing against the Jets would be limiting turnovers. Manziel protected the football against Tennessee, while also leaning heavily on a strong outing by Cleveland’s defense and special teams.

McCown will lead Cleveland against the Oakland Raiders at home on Sunday. Both teams looked surprisingly frisky in Week 2 and are coming off their first victories of the season. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. ET.
