Injury update for Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Gunner Kiel
UPDATE: ESPN incorrectly reported that Kiel was taken to the hospital on the broadcast. In what’s obviously tremendous news given the circumstances, Kiel is in the Cincinnati locker room being evaluated.

It was a scary scene inside Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis after Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Gunner Kiel suffered a devastating hit to the head. The blow left him motionless on the field for several minutes and he was carted off of the field on a stretcher.
ESPN’s broadcast reported that, on the way off of the field, Kiel was responding to trainers verbally and moving his toes:

With such a serious injury that left fans all over the country in silent shock after the hit, there will be continued updates throughout the night it seems as ESPN sent Kaylee Hartung to the hospital following the Bearcats quarterback.
What’s crazy about the play is that it wasn’t called targeting. The debate has raged on since Kiel’s injury about what the defender could have done and so on and so forth. However, Yahoo Sports’ college football blog Dr. Saturday may have said it best in regards to the debate and Kiel:
While we can all sit here and debate what type of hit it was, the most important thing is making sure Kiel is OK. So here’s hoping for that.

Those sentiments are surely shared by everyone. Thoughts and prayers with Kiel and best wishes that everything turns out to be okay after this scary situation.
