After a monster first half, Michigan running back De’Veon Smith injured his ankle in the third quarter
De’Veon Smith showed up for the Michigan Wolverines in a big way as they welcomed the 22nd ranked BYU Cougars to Ann Arbor. He was continually productive, but his biggest moment was a beast-mode 60-yard touchdown run where he plowed through the Cougars defense. However, his day has ended prematurely.
After his big first half and with the Wolverines protecting a big lead in the third quarter, Smith got the ball once again on a handoff going to the left side. He took a big hit and got his ankle/leg trapped in the tackle and rolled up on as he went to the ground. He got up gingerly and then limped off of the field with the help of trainers and coaches:

Smith went to the sidelines and got checked out by the trainers. However, he put his cleats back on and hopped on the stationary bike in lieu of going back to the locker room:

After all of that, though, he was then taken to the locker room on the back of the cart, indicating that his day is likely over. There’s no word yet on the severity of the injury at this point. There will certainly be more information after he’s evaluated in the back.
