Pharoh Cooper’s struggles vs. UCF epitomize the Gamecocks’ season so far
The South Carolina Gamecocks got worked last week by the Georgia Bulldogs and are following that up by trailing the UCF Knights at halftime. Things aren’t going well for Steve Spurrier’s men at all, but Pharoh Cooper may be having the worst day of anyone for South Carolina by his own doing.
For starters, Cooper had one of the worst punt muffs we’ve seen in a long time early in the second quarter that gave the ball to the Knights at the one-yard line.
That’s not misjudging the ball or anything; Cooper backs out of the way and lets the ball fall through his hands. For a veteran player like Cooper, that’s an absolutely abysmal mistake.
That wasn’t his only embarrassing moment of the afternoon, as he was also owned by a UCF defensive back on a throw he could have had.
Again, I’m not sure what Cooper is doing on that play, besides apparently not being interested in catching the ball. There’s a sincere lack of effort on his part.
Cooper seems just about as checked out as most Gamecocks fans are after their poor start to the season. Considering he’s one of the veteran leaders on this team, that doesn’t make the prospects of a South Carolina turnaround in this game and season seem very likely.
