No. 21 Stanford went on the road Friday night to the hostile environment that is Corvallis and came out victorious over Oregon State
One week after they pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the year thus far by defeating the USC Trojans in the Coliseum, things did not get all that easier for the Stanford Cardinal on Friday night. After that monumental win, they were tasked with going into Corvallis to take on the Oregon State Beavers. Well, this was another test that this team passed, defeating Oregon State on Friday night 42-24.
This wasnāt all that easy of an outing for Stanford, though, taking just a 21-17 lead into the half. The Cardinal and Beavers traded scores for the most part throughout the first half with Oregon State not wavering one bit.
In the second half, it looked as if Stanford was ready to pull away in this one and put it to bed after an 11-yard Barry Sanders touchdown with just under three minutes left in the third quarter pushed the lead to 35-17. Everyoneās hopes for the upset jumped just a little bit, though, when Oregon State QB Seth Collins would answer with a beautiful 40-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Villamin. That score would pull it to 35-24.
That joy would be short-lived, as none other than Barry Sanders Jr. would give Stanford the momentum right back with an electrifying 65-yard touchdown scamper, his second score of the night. From there, Stanford was able to control the clock the rest of the way for the most part and leave Corvallis with the win to move to 3-1 on the season.
