Indianapolis Colts quarterback remains questionable for Sunday’s game after not practicing with the team on Friday.
The Indianapolis Colts have been forced to deal with an under-productive Andrew Luck through the first three weeks of the season. Now, the team may be facing not having their franchise quarterback at all for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Once again, Luck was sidelined at the beginning of practice and was not present when the quarterbacks took the field on Friday, putting his status for Sunday’s match-up in doubt. Unable to throw in Thursday due to the linger pain in his sore throwing shoulder, Luck instead watched as Matt Hasselbeck led the first team offense, according to Mike Chappell of Indiana Sports Central.

Luck’s shoulder has been a question mark since Sunday, when he appeared to lack arm strength on two terrible interceptions in the third quarter. While he eventually led the team to a comeback victory, amassing 260 yards and two touchdowns on 18 of 30 passing, it was evident that the quarterback wasn’t at his best. Overall, Luck ranks dead last in the NFL with a passer rating of 65.1 in 2015.
With Luck questionable for Sunday, the Colts signed veteran quarterback Josh Johnson to add some depth to the roster. With Hasselbeck likely to start in Luck’s place if the latter is unable to go, Indianapolis was left with Alex Tanney, the team’s practice squad QB as an available back-up.
Hasselbeck has spent the last two seasons backing up Luck in Indianapolis, including completing 30 of 44 pass attempts for 301 yards and two touchdowns last season. Meanwhile, Johnson has bounced around each of the last three seasons, with stops in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and San Francisco, but has yet to throw a pass since he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2011. Overall, he’s played in 29 games, completing 96 of 177 pass attempts for 1,042 yards, five touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
Regardless of his struggles in 2015, the Colts need the old Andrew Luck back on the field. If sitting a week against the lowly Jaguars allows that to happen, Indianapolis would gladly take it. Given the alternative, it may be the best option at this point in an already disappointing season.
