Alabama dominates Georgia from start-to-finish for huge SEC win on the road

It was a rainy day inside Sanford Stadium for the Georgia Bulldogs in terms of both weather and mood. The Alabama Crimson Tide came into the huge SEC matchup against the Bulldogs as the underdogs and Nick Saban’s group looked none too pleased about that fact from the first snap of the game. From start-to-finish, this game was all about the Crimson Tide laying it to Georgia.

Early on in the first quarter, it seemed as if these two titans in the SEC were feeling each other out and couldn’t get anything going. An Alabama field goal was the only score of the first period, but the Crimson Tide opened it up in the second half. Derrick Henry got things going strong for Alabama with a beastly 30-yard run. It was the special teams for the Crimson Tide who really took hold of the game with a blocked punt later in the second quarter that was returned for a touchdown. Poor coveraged on a Jake Coker bomb to Calvin Ridley right before the end of the half put Bama up 24-3 at halftime.

From there, Georgia tried to shake things up by going with Brice Ramsey instead of Greyson Lambert. That worked out poorly as Ramsey promptly threw a pick-six to Eddie Jackson on his first throw of the second half. Coker got another score, this one with his legs, later in the third quarter. It wasn’t until the end of the third that Georgia got on the board with a huge Nick Chubb run, but it was far too little far too late. The action in the final quarter was almost nonexistent with both teams coasting to the finish, Alabama relishing in victory and Georgia wanting to get away from the beatdown. Quite frankly, this one was over long before the final whistle.

Three Stars

Derrick Henry was a monster for the Crimson Tide in this big win as the running back amassed 148 yards rushing on 26 carries and notched the one trip to the endzone.

Freshman wide receiver Calvin Ridley was huge for Alabama in the win, coming up with five receptions for 120 yards and one score.

Though his stats weren’t jarring, Jake Coker was huge for the Tide. In the inclement weather and in a big moment, he found the endzone twice and didn’t turn the ball over en route to the massive victory.

Highlights

Odds

Alabama came into this game as the underdog by 2.5 points, which they obviously shattered with the big win. The two teams combined for just 48 points in the contest, though, hitting the under on the 53-point O/U.

Next Week

Georgia will be looking to rebound after this brutal loss as they have another huge SEC matchup on the road against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Alabama will be back at home next week looking to continue their dominance against a reeling Arkansas Razorbacks team.
