San Diego was expected to be one of the better teams in the league, but has struggled to stop the run, get a pass rush or avoid injuries. The defense has been nothing other than a sieve, leading to all kinds of easy scores and large deficits.
Cleveland has endured all kinds of problems offensively. Dwayne Bowe was signed to a two-year deal in the offseason and has been inactive despite being healthy. The quarterback situation has been maddening for many Browns fans, with the coaching staff deciding to roll with veteran Josh McCown instead or second-year Johnny Manziel.
The Chargers need to win this game if they want to keep pace in the AFC West. The Oakland Raiders are 2-1 and the Denver Broncos are 3-0 and playing the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon. Losing would put San Diego in a massive hole, one that would be mighty tough to climb out of.
Cleveland is still trying to build, something that has been a popular refrain on the banks of Lake Erie since the franchise came to be again in 1999. The Browns have struggled to gain any traction, only making the playoffs once since that time.
