Week 7 is the time to put these five NFL teams on upset alert

The 2015 NFL season is going into Week 7 and there are still five teams that remain undefeated. The New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, and the Carolina Panthers have all yet to lose a game. However, there were six undefeated teams heading into Week 6 and that number was close to dropping to three after last week’s action.

The Atlanta Falcons were the team that suffered their first loss of the year last week, coming out flat and getting shellacked by the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football. However, they were almost joined in the ranks of one-loss teams by the Panthers and the Broncos after what happened in their respective matchups.

Carolina found themselves in a dogfight, like many expected, against the Seattle Seahawks last week and trailed Seattle by nine points in the fourth quarter. They needed a masterful performance from Cam Newton over the last 10 minutes or so of the game to edge out a 27-23 victory.

Meanwhile, the Broncos were taken to overtime against the Cleveland Browns in a game that they honestly should have lost. The Browns had tremendous field position in the overtime period and only needed a few yards to have a solid shot at the game-winning field goal. Instead, Denver’s defense came up big and the Browns offense implodes, allowing Denver to get the ball back and kick their own game-winner.

All of this is to say that, despite how top-heavy the NFL standings may seem right now, there are still upsets to be had on any given week in any given matchup. However, there aren’t many undefeated teams that will even have a chance at being upset in Week 7 as three of the league’s unbeaten squads in the Bengals, Packers, and Broncos all get to rest on a bye this week.

Just because only two of the remaining undefeated teams are in action this week doesn’t mean that there aren’t other upsets around the league to be had. Injuries, uncertainty, poor starts leading to bad records, and questionable point spreads all still create ample opportunities for upsets in Week 7.

As last week proved, any team in the NFL can lose on any given week, but there are five matchups that seem like the most likely instances where an upset will occur in Week 7. These are those five NFL teams on upset alert for Week 7:
