Connor McDavid named NHL Rookie of the Month

Connor McDavid has lived up to the hype in the first month of his rookie season
The first month of the NHL season has come to an end, and the league has announced the top players of the month.
In the 2015 NHL Draft, the Edmonton Oilers had the good fortune of possessing the first overall pick in the draft. In all sports, some years are better than others for having the first pick in a draft, and 2015 was one of the best years in recent years to have the first overall pick in the NHL.
The Oilers made the no-brainer pick on draft day by selecting Connor McDavid. It is very rare to hear about hockey prospects in the mainstream media, but McDavid was drawing the expectations of being the next Wayne Gretzky, which is obviously an eye-opener person for an 18-year-old to be compared to.
In his first month of his rookie season on Gretzky’s former team, McDavid has totaled 12 points in 12 games, as he has five goals and seven assists.
McDavid got off to a bit of a slow start in his first four games, as he only totaled one point, but since then he has been on fire. McDavid was able to go on a seven-game point streak before finally having that streak broken on Halloween against the Calgary Flames. McDavid’s best game of the month came against the Flames on October 17th, where he totaled three points with two goals and one assist.
In October, McDavid led all rookies in total points, was tied for first in goals, and was in second in assists behind Artemi Panarin.
The good month for McDavid has resulted in the Oilers not being the worst team in the NHL in the first month of the season. The Oilers still have a lot of work to do to become a contender again, but the continued development of McDavid will help them create new glory days in Edmonton.
