The Minnesota Timberwolves unveil new jersey patch in honor of late head coach Flip Saunders. 

The passing away of Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders has not only had a significant effect on the Timberwolves organization, but on the NBA as a whole. Players, coaches and teams flooded to pay their respects on and off the court upon the arrival of the news last Sunday.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, who are off to a 2-0 start on the new NBA season with wins against the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets will commemorate Flip Saunders with a jersey patch in their home opener tonight. The players have been wearing warm up shirts that say “WE” for the first two road games of the season, highlighting the fellowship of the team during this difficult time.

The jersey patch will be unveiled for the first time in the Target Center and will be worn by players for the duration of the season. Prior to the 7 PM tip-off, the Timberwolves organization will honor Flip Saunders with a video tribute featuring many of the family members, teammates, players and friends of Flip. In addition, the team has put up a wall within the Target Center encouraging fans to share the memories they have from their beloved coach.

The Minnesota Timberwolves organization has handled the passing away of their head coach in a very humble and respectful manner. It is difficult times such as these where the community and the closeness of the NBA can be witnessed and admired.

The Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Portland Trail Blazers  and will look to their first overall pick Karl-Anthony Towns who has two double-doubles in the first two games of the season to take them to 3-0.
