Defensive Rookie of the Year: Marcus Peters

Peters was the most talented cornerback in the 2015 NFL Draft in the eyes of most scouts, but many teams shied away from him due to character concerns. Peters was finally taken with the 18th-overall pick by the Chiefs, led by the brain trust of head coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey. Peters had been dismissed from the University of Washington program for issues with the coaching staff, but those problems are yet to pop up again.

Peters starting his career with a bang. In Week 1 against the Houston Texans, Peters intercepted Brian Hoyer on the first defensive play of the game. Peters then backed it up the following week, scoring on a pick-six of Peyton Manning in Week 2 on Thursday Night Football. Peters has since recorded another interception as quarterbacks begin to stay away from the rookie.

Peters has been very impressive with getting his hands on the football. Along with his three interceptions, Peters also has 11 passes defensed, tied for the third-most in the NFL. Peters also has 35 tackles, one of the highest totals for a cornerback. With both Berry and Peters in the secondary, along with veterans Sean Smith and Ron Parker, the Chiefs have one of the best secondaries in the game.
