Ray Rice comments on Greg Hardy situation

Ray Rice has commented on the Greg Hardy situation.

Former National Football League running back Ray Rice knows all about the power of pictures. Rice was caught on camera assaulting his then-fiancee and current wife, Janay Rice, in an Atlantic City elevator back in Feb. 2014. Rice’s career effectively ended the day that tape was released in September of the same year, making him radioactive from that moment forward.

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy is about to understand the power of pictures as well. We have all heard about what Hardy allegedly did to his former girlfriend, Nicole Holder. We heard about the the ugliness. Now, thanks to a leak in evidence, we have the pictures of this poor young woman, battered and bruised. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been decidedly quiet on the issue, something that isn’t easy for him to achieve. Normally, Jones can’t stop running his mouth. Turns out Hardy can have that affect on people.

On Sunday, Rice spoke candidly with Hannah Storm on SportsCenter, saying that video and pictures shouldn’t be what triggers rage about domestic violence. Rice is 100 percent correct, and yet that seems to be what it takes.

Unfortunately, that is not enough for the Cowboys, who still plan to start Hardy on Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles. Hopefully, even the fans in Dallas with boo him regardless of his production. Hopefully, the NBC broadcast crew of Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, Michele Tafoya and Bob Costas will slam that disgrace of a human being for what he is. Better yet, they should hammer Jones for being a buffoon, for continuing to pedal this monster in front of children and women.

At some point, enough has to be enough. Hardy was suspended 15 games last year (with pay) and the first four of this season (without pay, although the suspension was reduced from 10 games), and yet he clearly has not learned his lesson. He has never apologized, nor cared. After returning from suspension, Hardy talked about Tom Brady’s wife, Gisele Bündchen, before he played his first down in Dallas. Then there was the rap video, complete with guns and women. It was his form of giving the middle finger to Jones, the NFL, women across the world, and anybody who disagreed with him.

Somehow, Jones just continues to bury his hand in the sand. It’s hard to imagine that Jones would be so willing to pay and put Hardy out on the field in his uniform, allowing him to represent his brand.

It’s amazing to think that Ray Rice is the voice of reason on domestic abuse, but that is what this sad episode has come to.
