Ricky Rubio hits Karl-Anthony Towns with behind-the-back dime (Video)
Ricky Rubio found rookie Karl-Anthony Towns with a beautiful assist
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been one of the more surprising early-season teams in the NBA this year, coming out of the gate already capitalizing on all of the young talent on their roster. However, they stumbled in recent weeks as point guard Ricky Rubio was out due to injury. Rubio has now returned to action and it looks like he hasn’t missed a beat.
On Wednesday night as the Wolves were on the road to take on the Orlando Magic, Rubio caught a pass at the elbow early in the first quarter. He took a hard jab towards the middle of the lane that drew in the defense. The Spanish point guard then did what he does best as he hit Karl-Anthony Towns with a gorgeous behind-the-back pass for an easy two-handed slam:
That was a thing of beauty and something I’m sure that fans in Minnesota are looking forward to seeing for the next decade or so from their Timberwolves.
Rubio’s poor shooting has persisted to start this season, but his value to this Wolves team was evident in his absence. Not only is he easily their best facilitator and best option to run the offense, but he’s also the anchor in the backcourt on the defensive end. We’ll see if his return sparks another run from this Wolves team and hopefully that’ll include more beautiful dimes like this one.
