Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Karl-Anthony Towns dishes out a solid impersonation of Shaquille O’Neal on live TV, but takes a sharp one-liner in return.

After being selected first overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2015 NBA Draft, 20-year-old Karl-Anthony Towns is already is coming into his own – both on the court and in interviews. When asked to give an impersonation of Shaquille O’Neal on NBA TV on Wednesday night, Towns did not disappoint, via The Cauldron.

Towns offers a spot-on impersonation of Shaq’s “barbecue chicken” catchphrase. O’Neal often dishes out a barbecue chicken alert in reference to a center dominating a defender in the low post, much like O’Neal did often during his playing days. Centers from Robin Lopez to Anthony Davis have been hit with a barbecue chicken alert over the past couple of years.

Of course, Towns knew a quick response was coming, and Shaq retorts by calling Towns a “7-foot Drake.” To give credit to O’Neal, there is some resemblance there.

Towns has been turning defenders into barbecue chicken early in his rookie season, averaging 15.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, and should only get better with experience. That included a 26 point performance last night in an overtime win against Shaq’s Los Angeles Lakers, as Roy Hibbert and Robert Sacre were able to offer little resistance.

Hopefully Towns will get a chance to showcase his impersonation game again in the future.
